Three females are in custody after a felony theft incident occurred Thursday in Auburn and was followed by a multi-county car chase.
Auburn police officers responded to a felony theft at a business located in the 1800 block of Shug Jordan Parkway at about 4 p.m. Thursday, Auburn police Capt. Lorenza Dorsey said.
“After being given a vehicle and suspect description, officers located the vehicle, a 2010 maroon Pontiac G6, in the vicinity and attempted to conduct a traffic stop,” said Dorsey. “The vehicle refused to stop and fled, leaving the Auburn city limits."
Surrounding law enforcement agencies assisted in attempting to contact the vehicle.
The incident concluded with a single-vehicle accident in Columbus, Ga., according to Dorsey.
“Auburn police obtained warrants and a juvenile pick up order on the individuals involved in the shoplifting and will initiate the extradition process and have them returned to Alabama once the authorities in Georgia release them,” said Dorsey.
A 25-year-old female is being charged with felony third-degree theft of property, reckless endangerment and fleeing/attempting to elude, Dorsey said.
A 38-year-old female and a 17-year-old female juvenile are both being charged with felony third-degree theft of property, said Dorsey.
Once the suspects are transported back to Alabama and placed in the Lee County Jail, the 25-year-old female will be held on a $5,500 bond. The 38-year-old female will be eligible for a $1,500 bond and the juvenile will be held at the Lee County Youth Development Center pending a detention hearing, Dorsey said.
The shoplifting case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division.
