Nancy Lopez, a 48-time winner on the LPGA Tour, will host this spring’s professional golf event at Grand National and will serve as a brand ambassador for the championship’s title sponsor.
The Ladies Professional Golf Association announced Friday that musculoskeletal healthcare company Ziomer Biomet was named the official joint replacement provider of the LPGA Tour and its official qualifying tour, the Symetra Tour.
The Lake Course at Grand National will host a Symetra Tour event, the Zimmer Biomet Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez, May 23-36.
Lopez will attend both the pro-am competition and the pro-am party at the Zimmer Biomet Championship, according to a news release from the LPGA.
“We are grateful to Zimmer Biomet for embracing the Symetra Tour,” said Mike Nichols, chief business officer for the tour. “The inclusion of Nancy Lopez as the hostess for this inaugural event makes for a special week for our players, sponsors and fans.”
Lopez has had both knees replaced and said she is excited about the partnership.
“Representing a company that has a product that has changed my life is pretty exciting, and to be the spokesperson for Zimmer Biomet and to talk about it is fantastic,” she said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun to reach out to people that pretty much are afraid to do anything with knee replacements.”
A field of 144 women will compete for a $300,000 purse, the highest ever on the Symetra Tour.
