The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation into the death of a 65-year-old woman who was arrested Friday.

Susan T. Corley, of Jackson’s Gap, was taken to the Tallapoosa County Jail on Friday on an active arrest warrant and “began to display symptoms of medical distress” during the booking procedure, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

“Medical assistance was given to Corley while in the jail and she was transported by Lake Martin EMS to Lake Martin Hospital, where she died,” the release reads.

It is the department’s policy to request the State Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation of any death occurring in TCSD custody, according to the release.
