Two teens are in custody after a weekend family gathering in Tallassee turned deadly.

Zan’guintavius Hughley, 19, and Ladrequez Holloway, 19, were arrested and  both charged with first-degree murder/assault, Tallassee police said.

Officers responded to the 600 block of North Johnson Street in reference to a shooting call at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

Upon arrival, police determined that a verbal altercation had broken out at a family gathering that escalated into an exchange of gunfire. During the exchange, a 34-year-old Hispanic male and a 34-year-old black male were struck by gunfire, said police.

The victims were taken to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery where the Hispanic male later died from his injuries, according to police.

Detectives and patrol took Hughley into custody Friday night.

The other suspect, Holloway, fled Tallassee following the incident, but later was located and taken into custody by the Tallassee Police Department and U.S. Marshals, police said.
