A Sylacauga man and his teen passenger were both killed Saturday night when the motorcycle they were riding on U.S. 280 north of Alexander City was struck by a vehicle.

Monty Ray Jones, 45, of Sylacauga, was killed when the 1997 Harley Davidson he was operating was struck by a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

His 17-year-old passenger on the Harley also was killed, Alabama State Troopers reported.

Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Timothy Matthew Caldwell, 19, of Kellyton was charged with two counts of “Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident,” troopers reported.

The accident occurred at 9:15 p.m. Saturday at the 62-mile marker near the intersection of Alabama 115 in Kellyton.

Nothing further is available as troopers continue to investigate, Cpl. Jess Thornton said on Sunday.
