Opelika police are investigating a Tuesday night shooting that left a 44-year-old victim suffering a gunshot wound.

The shooting occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on North 16th Street near 1st Avenue, police said in a news release Wednesday morning.

The name and hometown of the victim were not released.

Police are searching for clues and a suspect, described only as a black male.

The victim was taken to Piedmont Medical Center in Columbus, Ga., for treatment, but was not suffering from life-threatening wounds, police said.

No other details immediately were available Wednesday morning as police continued to investigate.
