Keep Auburn Lovely began with a mission to inform citizens, encourage involvement and show support of our city and planners. We share a concern about the future of Auburn as well as our heritage because we love Auburn. It was never meant to be divisive because that is definitely not "lovely."
As you contact your city representatives, thank them for their leadership and let them know what you love about Auburn and what you would love to see in Auburn. It's easy to criticize but much harder to offer constructive suggestions.
While I do not want 75-foot multi-unit development in the Downtown Core, some will be built due to the current ordinances. Continue to speak out if you want lower height and density in the Downtown Core. Continue to speak out if you support the recommendations for changes that were proposed by the City Council when the Downtown Master Plan was adopted.
My hope is that the retail spaces will be an attraction for all citizens and visitors. What shops or restaurants would you like to see? What attracts you to visit other downtown cities? Is it a unique shop, restaurant, museum or activity?
As for involvement, KAL can keep posting information about meetings and upcoming events. Consider the boards and commissions where your talents could be used and apply for those openings. The city needs your involvement. What method would be helpful in communicating with our leadership -- ward meetings, town hall meetings, forums, email?
The common ground is that we all love Auburn. But we all have different ideas and how to go about embracing change is always a struggle. With constructive input and ideas, you can make a difference and help Keep Auburn Lovely.
