Auburn has its holiday plans for next Thanksgiving all set.
The Tigers will take part in the 2020 Orlando Invitational next November playing in a stacked field that includes power programs Michigan State, Gonzaga and Xavier, the university announced on Wednesday.
Auburn just swept its midseason tournament for this year at the Legends Classic in Brooklyn.
Next year’s event will take place Nov. 26-29, 2020, at the HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports just outside Orlando, Fla.
This will mark Auburn’s first trip to the tournament.
It’s an eight-team field. Outside of Auburn, Michigan State, Gonzaga and Xavier, it features Belmont, Boise State, Saint Louis and Siena.
The tournament will invite teams and fans to the nearby Walt Disney World Resort.
Auburn played in the Maui Invitational last Thanksgiving week in Hawaii. This year, Auburn beat New Mexico 84-59 on Monday in the Legends Classic semifinals at the Barclays Center, before the Tigers topped Richmond 79-65 in the tournament finals Tuesday.
A generation ago in Orlando, Auburn won the 1985 Red Lobster Classic in the city, during the 85-86 team’s charge to the Elite Eight. Auburn’s 5-2 all-time in the city, according to the school.
Michigan State is a two-time national champion and a program with 10 Final Four appearances. Auburn’s only played Michigan State once, in a loss in 1989 on the week of Thanksgiving in Alaska. Auburn’s never played Gonzaga. The Tigers are 5-5 all-time against Xavier, boasting a win over the Musketeers last year in Maui.
Auburn plays Saint Louis this December in the Mike Slive Invitational in Birmingham.
